Content with your Content Content Writing - May 15, 2011

In my experience of helping hundreds of different people create their websites, the most common hurtle people face is writing their content.   For most, their desired design and layout vision come relatively easy.  But when it comes to describing who they are and what they are here to do, the task becomes more difficult.

What I’ve realized, along with these clients, is that this process of writing the content for an “About” page, for example, requires that we learn more about who we are in order to articulate it to others clearly.  Fear may come up for some people about either not being good enough, or sounding egotistical, or about being judged or not accepted.  The process of writing content for your website may also make you ponder more deeply what you really do offer your audience, and
how to best communicate that.

Fortunately, there are many tools and resources available to assist in writing and marketing strategies.  The most important thing is to be in a space of acceptance, or contentment, about yourself:  be happy with who you are and what you have to offer.  If your website is for a larger business, be happy about your business: your contentment will shine through your words and attract those who value this quality of magnetic, non-needy expression.

Give yourself a deep breath, relax and know everything is inside of you.  You can create what ever you can have.  Decide that you can have being content with yourself and writing about yourself and your business from that place of acceptance.  Take a moment to write out a few categories you may want to incorporate into your website, such as: biography or about page, services page, media page.  Now write down a few key points about each of these sections.  This is a great way to get started if you feel stuck about writing content.  Ultimately, it’s about connecting with your creativity and self-expression.  The details will follow.
